Making Updates to Your Product Catalog

Highlights how to make updates to your data using the product catalog

Updated over 2 months ago

IdeaRoom configurators load the data that is stored in the Product Catalog, interpreting the logic and content to display both the product model and the selection options in the right panel. All content specific to your buildings, options, and pricing is contained within your product catalog. How the items display (for example, color options displayed on the Color tab) is handled by the IdeaRoom platform.

Product catalog access for editing is currently restricted. Product catalog limited releases for editing will be available beginning January 2026. (Read-only product catalog access is available now.)

To access your product catalog, please make a request using the Support widget in the lower right corner. Training is required before access will be granted.

As you begin updating your product catalog, it's helpful to be aware of the following:

  • Be cautious about reordering rows in the product catalog. Row order often determines how the items will display in the selection panels and the order in which business or pricing logic is applied.

  • Do not change key values, even if they are mislabeled or misleading. Changing a key name will break all designs saved with that key as well as all business logic referencing the key name. Key names are simply unique identifiers in the system and are not shown anywhere in the UI. You can change Labels (what is shown in the configurator) with no issues.

  • Your published data will overwrite any pending updates from the IdeaRoom Customer Experience team. Do not make updates if you are aware of a significant update to your data being done by the Customer Experience team. Reach out to IdeaRoom to understand any ongoing work on your site prior to making major updates.

  • If your published data set has unexpected issues, IdeaRoom Support can load a previous version of the data set and publish, overwriting the most recent publish.

Using Keys and Tags

Within your product catalog, use keys to reference explicit items (such as style, size, material, or component) within an expression (a JavaScript snippet describing a business rule to be applied to the data).

The product catalog also supports tags as an effective method of grouping related items into descriptive reference-able groups throughout the data. For example, most carport sites use tags for standard widths ("12-24-wide", "26-30-wide", "32-60-wide"), encompassing all sizes within those width ranges.

Viewing Cell History

See changes to a particular cell by right-clicking on the cell and selecting Show Edit History. This may be useful if you are troubleshooting a recent change.

Adding Notes to a Cell

Often complex expressions can benefit from a more human readable description, which can be easily capture in a note added to a cell.

Notes are indicated by a small blue triangle in the upper right corner of the cell. Hovering over the cell will show the note.

Add a note by right-clicking the cell and selecting Add Note.

Discoverability

  • Use Search and Filters

  • Append the URL parameter ?lng=cimode to your IdeaRoom site to discover the keys. Labels will be replaced by their keys in the configurator, helping you identify the specific key behind a label or option.
