What Are DNS Records?
DNS (Domain Name System) records are like an address book for the internet. They help translate human-friendly web addresses (like www.example.com) into computer-friendly IP addresses (like 192.0.2.1). DNS records are essential for directing traffic on the internet and ensuring that when someone types a domain name into their browser, they are taken to the correct website.
Common Types of DNS Records:
- A Record: Links a domain to a physical IP address.
- CNAME Record: Redirects one domain to another domain, allowing multiple services (like email and a website) to be hosted from a single IP address.
- MX Record: Directs email to an email server.
- TXT Record: Provides text notes to sources outside your domain; often used for security or verification purposes.
Find your domain provider below and follow the steps to add TXT, MX , or CNAME type records in the DNS settings of your domain provider. The type of records you will add will depend on your domain provider.
NOTE: Not all domain providers allow you to directly edit all DNS records. If you cannot update the records, contact your DNS provider for information on how to update them.
